We saw it in Tom Horn. We saw them in Tombstone. We need to see them more. The 1876 Winchester the big bore version of 1873. Although they were made in many different calibers, the ideal caliber for movie work is the .45-60. The .45-70 blanks made for the 86 Winchester, the Sharps or the Trapdoor Springfield work well in the 76.

Guys, heres another gun we seldom see, but would like to the 1885 Colt Lightning. We found many photos taken in the late 1880s and 1890s using the 1885. There have been a few used in films and its always a thrill for collectors to see the unusual

Alas, another firearm youll never see in a Western unless we do it, of course. Made in the 1870s, the Evans was a 28 shot lever gun, truly something the movies should use with their reluctance to ever show reloading. Between about 1948 and 1978, it seems Hollywoods thinking was that the only firearms ever used in the West were 92 Winchesters and single action Colts. Today, Hollywood is trying to do it right, but until the old guard knows that you want to see it done right and the newer, more educated filmmakers who are more interested in creating art than turning a personal, quick buck take over, the battle for authenticity will still be waged. Doc Holliday didnt always sport the 4 ¾" SA Colt seen in Tombstone. For Dodge City, hell carry a Colt .38 caliber conversion, 7 ½" nickel-plated with ivory grips. Docs original gun can be found in Petersens "Guns of the Gunfighter." This is another type of frontier firearm we should see more of in films.

Wyatts Buntline from the film Tombstone and the soon to be made Dodge City where Wyatt was presented with this controversial firearm of Ned Buntline. We made it by cutting down a Colt barrel from 12" to 10inches and installing it on an EMF Hartford model. The brass plaque was made by John Ennis and designed by Tombstone writer, Kevin Jarre. It was a pleasure working with a man like Kevin Jarre whose integrity and knowledge gave Tombstone the look it had.
